2014 December

THE BROTHERHOOD OF SAINT ANDREW

Minutes
December 13, 2014

The meeting was called to order by the Director, Jim Ware, at 9:30 AM, at the Old Episcopal
Burying Ground. Present were Drew Byrd, Lance Churchill, Tom Crehore, Bill David, David DeBrot, Guy Ellis, Kevin Gilbert, Greg Graf, Matt Lutz, Fr. Brent Owens, John Perrine, Win Underwood, and Jim Ware.

The opening service was led by Jim Ware.

OLD BUSINESS
Room In The Inn – We will host Room In The Inn on a Wednesday in January, the date is not yet
known.

NEW BUSINESS
Substituting for John Hodgman – John Hodgman, facilities manager, is planning to have knee
replacement surgery on January 5th and will be out four to six weeks recovering. A suggestion was made that the Brotherhood might be able to take over John’s duties until he is able to return. John works from eight to noon Monday through Friday, Mondays and Tuesdays being the busiest days. A list of John’s activities was circulated to the membership. Several persons volunteered to cover for John in his absence. Since many of the Brothers are working full time, not all can participate, but those who can will inform the director when they are available and a schedule will be drawn up.

Episcopal Campus Ministry – Fr. Joe Mitchell and Greg Graf serve on the board of the ECM, a
ministry of the Dioceses of Lexington. The Pentecostal Church and Lutheran Church partner with the Episcopal in supporting this ministry. Fr. Brent Owens is on the Diocese Budget Committee and stated that funding is a problem as the diocese is short of funds. Fr. Joe will probably be leaving in the next six months and the future of the ECM is uncertain. The diocese asks parishes to pool money to help network new seminarians for smaller parishes in the diocese. The future of this networking policy is uncertain. Greg Graf would like to see the ECM become as strong as other student ministries on the as the Methodist, the Baptist Student Union, and the Catholic Newman Center.

Lenten Fish Fry – The vestry has given hearty approval of the Lenten fish fry, a repeat of last
year’s event. Of the Fridays in Lent, three are possibilities: February 20 and 27, and March 27. March 13 is the date of Mary Palmers training session, March 20 is the gallery hop and March 6 is Commodores. It was suggested that we might team with Commodores, but no decision was made as to select specific dates and how many might be feasible. There was a discussion as to whether we should have baked fish as well as fried fish and if we should have beans. Again, no decision was made in lieu of further discussion. We plan to have hush puppies and slaw.

LAMBETH STUDY
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 was used for the study and discussion, led by Fr. Owens.

FINANCIAL REPORT
We have a bank balance of $860.64.

The closing service was led by Jim Ware and we were dismissed at 10:30 AM.

Respectfully submitted,
John Perrine
